Linda’s story highlights the power of curiosity, collaboration, and technology in building careers and creating a culture of growth at Fortive.

I love innovating. I’ve always tinkered around as a kid in regards to what’s the future and, learned myself. I like to, I always say, let’s lean into the discomfort. So learning what’s happening, and there’s so much happening, and getting my colleagues, my network to share and share their discomfort and work with each other, to innovate, to push for the future.

I am Linda Nguyen Bergen. I lead the technologies and transformation office at Fortive.

I have always played with technology, and so I kind of just fell into HR and started off with doing risk analysis. So business continuity, understanding the software side and what’s important to HR.

The company was having a tough time growing talent. And they said it was easier for our employees to find a job externally than internally. And I thought, that was the problem I can go after. I can help solve that.

Early in my career, I had a great manager. And I wanted to apply for a job in Singapore. And I went to her and I said, I was nervous about it, and I found this job. And there were two things that she did for me. First, she said, I fully support you. I want to be your advocate. I’m sorry to lose you, but I will be your biggest advocate and I want you to do what you want to do.

And actually, in six months, in a year, I actually have projects where you can go on expat assignment, you can work internationally.

Those two things I have held to my leadership today in regards to ensuring that I’m a sponsor, ensuring that I am lining up work to challenge people.

I’m okay with being uncomfortable and working with others and innovating with our partners, with Eightfold, giving ideas.

I’m a collaborator and I like to push and work fast. And I’m proud of the work that I’ve done, and with the organization as well.
