The modern career path isn’t a ladder — it’s a jungle gym.
Meet Kristine Yamartino, a former recruiter who found her next career opportunity in an entirely different function. By tapping into our Career Hub insights and recommendations, she saw that the skills she gained could translate into a completely different role — and career path.
In this video, Yamartino shares her internal mobility story. Career Hub showed her that the skills she gained as a recruiter could apply well to customer-facing roles, providing an exciting new twist to her career journey.
You’ll hear:
I had been on board for just over six months when through Eightfold Career Hub I was able to see a few projects available in customer success.
As a recruiter, I hadn’t really considered being on the customer-facing side before, but the projects were really well aligned to my skills according to the platform, and it was something that really intrigued me.
Projects spiraled to mentorship. I was proposed a few different mentors through Career Hub. Those mentors and those conversations led me further down the path of customer success. And then ultimately, when we had an opportunity open up internally for a senior customer success manager, I jumped at it.
Traditionally, careers have really been thought of as being on a ladder. You start on that first rung, whether it’s right out of high school or out of college, and then you climb to the next and to the next and to the next. I think for a lot of us, though, it looks a lot more like a jungle gym. It involves moves up. It involves moves to the side, up again, maybe back a little as you take a step back, but throughout the whole thing you’re gaining a new perspective.
I’m a fully remote employee. I work from my own home. This has afforded me the ability to do things like walk my dog during our lunch break. She is very happy about that, as am I.
The other piece of customer success, the thing that I think I really enjoy quite a bit, is actually getting to work with my customers onsite, in person, at their own offices. It has afforded me more travel in my position than recruiting ever did. So I do travel to places I’ve never been before, different areas of the country.
When I was able to be exposed to a project through Career Hub, what it gave me was the ability to do was take those skills and realize they’re applicable. They can make me successful in something else. They can open my horizons largely.
I think what’s the most exciting for me at this point in my career, though, is knowing that we do have tools like Eightfold Career Hub that can help me determine what that next step will look like.
